4 In: Just Enough for NY

Mannsville, NY received 4 inches of snow just in time… the night before the Empire State Snowshoe Championships.  If it hadn’t snowed that night, the New York Championships may have been contested in running shoes like several other snowshoe championships around the country this season.

Winona State Forest, which has had 240 less inches of snow than last year, played host to the championships.  The state champion on the men’s side was Earl Steinbrecher who ran the race in 55:58. Eric Sambolec was 2nd in 56:29 and Ken Burd finished 3rd with a 56:58.

Kellie Gregoire of Murray, NY was the champion on the women’s side with a time of 1:10:34. Close to 28 minutes later was runner-up Diane Olivo with a time of 1:38:29. Rounding out the podium spots in the women’s race was Kodie Tanner, finishing in 1:39:40.
